Hello my lovelies!! I’ve teamed up with Target to have an open and honest chat with my followers about style, obvi. Earlier this week I invited you to tell me what was one thing you loved about style and one of the things you found challenging. Your comments started pouring in and I couldn’t wait to tackle them and give you some solutions. The truth is that we all have style challenges and I hope you find the advice helpful as many of these are pretty universal and I think you will all be able to relate.
Challenge #1: Feeling sexy while covering up your curves.
Solution: Sexy is a state of mind and you don’t need to be in a tight dress to feel that way. When I want to feel sexy, I throw on a pair of heels and put on red lipstick, it always does the trick. Coveting this pair and these. And LOVE this Sonia Kashuk lipstick in Classic Red.
Challenge #1: Mixing patterns and NOT looking like a clown.
Solution: Thinking that you can’t mix prints and patterns, stripes and plaids is an outdated theory– I know it may seem intimidating, but you need to go for it. I have two simple rules: try to go with a complementary color family. Try to stick with simple graphic prints, like stripes, plaid and polka dots, especially in black and white because they go with everything. Lastly if you’re completely intimidated by the trend, break it up with a solid piece. Here’s a video I shot with Target a few months ago where I mixed prints and it totally worked!
Challenge #3: Accessorizing.
Solution: I know this can be hard sometimes, but less is more when it comes to accessories. I really believe in focusing on one key piece that makes a statement and everything else should be understated. Also make sure that the pieces are proportionate to your body frame, if you’re petite, stay away from a big chunky necklace and opt for a statement bracelet instead. Your accessory shouldn’t be the one thing people notice. Stay away from matching sets, it’s such an outdated approach– mix pieces up, it makes accessorizing more fun and interesting. Love these two statement necklaces, one and two and this bracelet (all under $20).
Challenge #4: Finding that ONE versatile piece that can fit into the many roles in your life.
Solution: Boyfriend jeans! with a blazer and flats for work, with converse sneakers to run errands and with heels for dinner. Voila!
Challenge #5: Do you need to match your purse to your shoes?
Solution: This is the most outdated style rule in the book– matchy matchy is not cool and that applies to your shoes and purse. Mixing your shoes and purses will give your outfit more personality, so have some fun!
Challenge #6: When you work from home, finding an outfit that does not entail yoga pants day in and day out.
Solution (but not really!): I work from home a few days a week and it’s also a challenge for me, but there’s no other way to work from home than being in loungewear. So what I do is find cute ensembles that are loung-y and pretty, I also change them every day and that makes it feel special. I never wear the same loungewear two days in a row.
Challenge #7: A new wardrobe, where to begin?
Challenge #8: Transitioning summer pieces into fall.
